Gwynt y Môr Windfarm: Weekly Progress Report, 4th August 2014

This is a summary of the weekly notice of operations for the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Windfarm issued on 4th August 2014 to harbour masters and sea users.  This notice describes progress with construction, recent operations, work planned for the next 7 days, and provides a list of vessels operating on the site with their contact details.

Wind Farm Construction Status

Progress with construction is illustrated in a map here, and summarised below:-

  • Monopiles: 160 installed.  Monopile installation is complete.
  • Transition pieces: 160 installed.  Transition piece installation is complete
  • Export cables: 4 export cables installed; installation is complete.
  • Array cables: 124 array cables installed, 37 remaining.
  • Array strings: 10 array strings installed, 6 remaining.
  • Wind Turbine Generators: 160 installed, 0 remaining.  Installation is complete.

Work carried out over past 7 days

The following work has been carried out in the past week:

  • Wind Solution is at anchor position south of Gwynt y Môr (see our previous notice here).
  • Porth Eilian, Gardian 10, Abersoch Bay, Colwyn Bay Gardian, EMS Viking, Sea Storm, Bayard 2 and Bayard 5 utilised as Crew Transfer Vessels when required sailing from Canada Dock 3 and Liverpool Marina.
  • Penrhyn Bay, Penrhos Bay, Gaillion, Caernarfon Bay, Gardian 2, Iceni Defiant, Adventure, Kinmel Bay, Buzzard, Captain P, Aberdaron Bay, Iceni Victory, Gardian 14, NSL Discovery and Kitty Petra sailed from the Port of Mostyn as required.
  • Chinook, Scirocco and Santa Ana continued with 24 hour cover and were utilised by the Emergency Rescue Team sailing from RWE Pontoon Birkenhead.
  • SWATH Sea Storm continued with operations at the wind farm.
  • Isadale  performed guard duties.
  • DSV Red7 Tonjer has continued with diving operations.
  • Polar Prince has continued with cable installation at the wind farm.
  • Polar King continued mattress installation, array cable installation and survey work assisted by CTVs Porth Eilian, Rix Panther and Rix Tiger (see our previous notice here).
  • Channel Chieftain VII, Cwind Challenger, NSL Discovery and Cwind Resolution continued refuelling operations on site based from Mostyn.
  • Sea Comfort continued work on the wind farm, providing accommodation and transferring passengers to assets on site.

Work planned for next 7 days

The work planned for the next 7 days on the site is:

  • Wind Solution will remain at anchor position to the south of Gwynt y Môr, sailing into Liverpool for shelter as required (see our previous notice here).
  • Porth Eilian, Gardian 10, Colwyn Bay Gardian, EMS Viking, Sea Storm, Bayard 2 and Bayard 5 will be utilised as Crew Transfer Vessels when required sailing from Canada Dock 3 and Liverpool Marina.
  • Penrhyn Bay, Penrhos Bay, Abersoch Bay, Gaillion, Caernarfon Bay, Gardian 2, Iceni Defiant, Adventure, Kinmel Bay, Buzzard, Captain P, Aberdaron Bay, Iceni Victory, Gardian 14, NSL Discovery and Kitty Petra will sail from the Port of Mostyn as required.
  • Santa Ana, Scirocco and Chinook are on 24 hour cover and being utilised by the Emergency Rescue Team sailing from RWE Pontoon Birkenhead.
  • Isadale will continue performing guard duties and will be used as the Marine Mammal Observation vessel as and when required.
  • Channel Chieftain VII, Cwind Challenger and Cwind Resolution will continue refuelling operations on site based from Mostyn.
  • Polar King will continue mattress laying, cable installation and survey work at the wind farm, (see notice to mariners here) assisted by CTVs Porth Eilian, Rix Panther and Rix Tiger.
  • Polar Prince will continue with survey work and cable installation at the wind farm.
  • DSV Red7 Tonjer will continue with diving operations.
  • Sea Comfort will continue work on the project providing accommodation and transferring passengers to the windfarm.

The vessels that will be operating on the site over the next 7 days and their contact details are given below.  We have linked up the vessel names to MarineTraffic.com so that with just one mouse click you can find out more about their current location and recent activity.

All vessels will monitor VHF Channel 16.

Port Arrivals

The planned port arrivals over the next 7 days are:-

  • Cammel Laird Birkenhead/Port of Liverpool.
    • Construction vessels and support vessels may enter Liverpool at short notice to change crew and collect stores.
  • Mostyn.
    • Crew transfer vessels listed in this notice will be transiting on a daily basis.
    • Channel Chieftain VII Cwind Challenger & Cwind Resolution transiting daily, operating 24 hours.
  • Liverpool marina / Cammell Lairds wet basin / Canada Dock
    • Crew transfer vessels listed in this notice will be transiting on a daily basis.
  • Fleetwood
    • Guard vessel Isadale bunkering fuel when required in Fleetwood.
