Mariners are advised that submarine power cable surveys are due to be carried out in the Sound of Scalpay and the Sound of Gigha during October 2015. Notices to mariners about this work have been issued for each of these surveys and are listed below.

Details of each survey area are given below.
1. Harris to Scalpay survey
Survey work is due to start in the Sound of Scalpay in the week commencing 5th October 2015 for period of about a week (weather permitting). The survey will be carried out in a corridor 250m either side of the electricity cables that run between these points:-
- Cable 1:
- Harris 57°52.589’N, 06°41.066’W and
- Scalpay 57°52.904’N, 06°40.940’W.
- Cable 2:
- Harris 57°52.752’N, 06°42.169’W and
- Scalpay 57°52.897’N, 06°41.873’W.

2. Gigha to Kintyre
Survey work is due to start in the Sound of Gigha on the 14th October 2015 for period of about a week (weather permitting). The survey will be carried out in a corridor 250m either side of the electricity cables that run between these points:-
- Kintyre 55°40.853’N, 05°40.611’W and
- Gigha 59°40.959’N, 05°43.498’W.

Survey details
This survey work will be carried out by the vessel Humber Guardian. Information about the survey vessel (including a link that shows the current location of the vessel) is provided below:-

Survey operations will be carried out during the hours of daylight. Humber Guardian will display the appropriate day shapes / signals and at times of reduced visibility will display appropriate lights as required by IRCPS. The vessel will actively transmit an AIS signal. A continuous listening watch will be maintained on VHF Channel 16 and DSC.
During survey operations, Humber Guardian will be restricted in the ability to manoeuvre. All vessels operating in the area are requested to maintain a safe distance and pass at minimum speed.
