This is an update to Mariners about the cable repair work that is due to be carried out on the export cable for the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm.
This work is now expected to start on 23rd January 2021 and to be completed by the 23rd February 2021. A revised Notice to Mariners has been issued which is summarised below and can be downloaded here. This notice supercedes the notice issued in December 2020.
Repair details
Briggs Marine Contractors has been contracted by the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Transmission Owner (OFTO) to undertake a repair to the SSEC3 export cable due to a power core fault. These operations are due to commence on the 23rd January 2021 and end on the 23rd February 2021 (dates are dependent on weather and sea conditions).
The location of the work is shown in the Notice to Mariners. The repair work will take place within the existing cable route corridor between the following coordinates:-
- 53° 23.120’N 003° 35.620’W
- 53° 22.68539’N 003 35.76643’W
Vessel details
The work will be undertaken by the MPI Resolution jack up installation vessel and the multi-purpose support vessel, Zwerver I. Additional support will be provided by the Crew Transfer Vessel, Iceni Defiant. Information about each vessel including a link to their current location on the Marine Traffic website is provided below.
- MPI Resolution: jack up installation vessel | Call sign PCJM
- Zwerver I: multi-purpose support vessel | Call sign PDSO
- Iceni Defiant: Crew transfer vessel | Call sign
During these operations the MPI Resolution and Zwerver I will be restricted in their ability to manoeuvre and vessels are requested, in the interest of safety, to pass with care and at a safe speed and distance (advisory 500m).
Should any vessel wish to come within 500m of the repair vessels, then direct communication with the Master is required.
