Gwynt y Môr Export Cable Survey: Update – Anchoring Works – July 2024

Mariners are advised that pre-construction work is due to be carried out on the route of the export cable from the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm close to the shore near to Abergele in North Wales.  This work is due to start on the 13th July 2024 and to last up to 2 days, subject to weather conditions.  A Notice to Mariners for this survey can be downloaded here and is summarised below.

Nature of Operations

The vessel Green Isle will be pre-setting 3 anchors in advance of maintenance work on the export cable.  The location of these anchors is given below:-

  • Waypoint 1: 053° 18.23617’N 003° 34.50563’W
  • Waypoint 2: 053° 18.10751’N 003° 34.67857’W
  • Waypoint 3: 053° 18.11323’N 003° 34.27439’W

The work is due to start on the 13th of July 2024 and to last up to 2 days.  These dates are subject to weather and sea conditions.

Vessel details

The anchor-setting operations will be carried out by the vessel Green Isle which is a tug  measuring 27.27m in length, 11.5m beam, with a green and black hull.  Information about this vessel including its current location can be found at the Marine Traffic website using the link below:-

Operations will be conducted on a 12-hour basis.  The vessel will display the prescribed lights and signals for anchoring operations and will monitor VHF Channel 12 & 16 at all times.

During this survey the vessel may be towing equipment and will be restricted in its ability to manoeuvre. Other vessels are requested to pass at a safe speed and maintain a wide berth of at least 200m distance.
