The Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm is one of the largest renewable energy projects in Europe. Between 2012 and 2015 a total of 160 wind turbines were installed off the coast of North Wales. Each turbine can produce up to 3.6MW of electricity. The whole wind farm can generate up to 576MW of electricity which is enough power for up to 400,000 homes.
AWJ have been working on this project since 2006. Consent for the project was granted in early 2008 after a full environmental assessment and wide consultation including local fishing interests from both the commercial and charter angling sectors.
Offshore construction work on the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm started in early 2012. Power production started in September 2013, the construction phase ended in November 2014, and final commissioning occurred in June 2015.
Facts and Figures

Risk of cable exposure
Mariners are advised that following survey work within the wind farm site over the past few years it has become apparent that there are a significant number of exposed areas of inter-array cable.
The windfarm operator keeps these areas under review. The most recent (September 2021) notice about these cable exposures can be accessed here.
All mariners are requested to make themselves aware of their obligations for conducting activities over buried and protected cables under International and UK Cable (Subsea) Protection Legislation.
