The most recent newsletter for the Awel y Môr windfarm has just been published. You can access this from the Awel y Môr website here.
The latest newsletter highlights the launch of the consultation on the community benefits package that will be established by the project. This consultation will run for 6 weeks, ending on April 4th 2022.
If you would like to take part in this consultation and help to shape how the region’s communities can share the benefits of the Awel y Môr Offshore Wind Farm you can access the consultation via the Awel y Môr project website here.
The consultation comprises of a short (5-step) questionnaire that you can complete online. Your responses will help to guide how Awel y Môr can best support local communities and the overall guiding principles for the package.
The newsletter also summarises the design amendments that have been made since the consultation during 2021. From a mariner’s perspective, the key changes that have been made to the project design are:-
- Reduced number of turbines – the maximum number has been reduced from the initial proposal of 91 turbines to 35-50 turbines. The final number will depend on the size of turbines and will be determined nearer to the construction phase.
- Reduced array area – the maximum array area has now been reduced further to 78km². This is a reduction of 26% from the original 2020 proposal.
The other design changes concern terrestrial aspects of the wind farm. The updated plans for the wind farm can be accessed on the website here.
